John Robert Lewis (February 21, 1940 – July 17, 2020) was an American politician and civil-rights leader who served in the United States House of Representatives for Georgia's 5th congressional district from 1987 until his death in 2020. At the time of his death, he left behind an essay encouraging us to continue the fight for freedom, and to get into some "good trouble".
